Like Soldiers Do
“A true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him”-G.K. Chesterson. The world of punk was born being anti-establishment, they did not love what was behind them. From the veteran punks like the Clash and the Sex Pistols to modern groups like Rise Against and Anti-Flag its easily to find examples of no allegiance to flag or wishing Anarchy in the UK.
Today being Remembrance Day we pause to take a moment to support the Veterans. Regardless if our politics are anti-war or anti-establishment is irrelevant when honoring the soldiers, the people who fought for us, acknowledging the sacrifices they made, bravery they had and the trauma they endured.
Depictions of terror, blood and war can be found in Rancid’s make it out alive or Bouncing Souls letters from Iraq and Billy Bragg’s Everywhere and like soldiers do sings of grief and loss that soldiers and their loved ones endure.
Battlefield Acupuncture was introduced in 2008 to help support to the wounded service members at Lanstuhl Reginal Medical Center in the US. The program has since had millions of dollars invested into it by the Us and has been adapted to combat the opioid crisis, pain management as well as managing PTSD in Veterans. The protocol is designed using five points in the ears, Shenmen (spirit point), Point zero (“wonderful point) Omega 2(psycho-emotional point), and two Brain memory points Thalamus and Sub Cortex. “Lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons and thy son’s sons”- Bible, book Deuteronomy 4:9.
Keeping the lesson but easing the pain is what Battlefield Acupuncture is all about.
